Last week all the girls of both gap year squads drove to Florida while the boys made their way to Kentucky to do disaster relief. This was our first full week of ministry and it was beautiful!
There was something so special about being a part of helping with disaster relief after being on the receiving side of it because of a flood that impacted my community a couple years ago. To be honest I really wasn’t sure of what emotions would be brought up during the week because of my personal experience but it was just a reminder of the faithfulness that God showed through the whole flood! He is so good and always provides!
So here’s a little photo recap of the week:
Nothing says 10 hour road trip in the south like the first stop being at Buc-ee’s. Thankfully my buddy for the trip was an experienced Buc-ee’s lover (what defines an experienced Buc-ee’s lover? Someone who buys Buc-ee’s pj pants to travel the world in).
Our home for the week! During our time in Florida we stayed at the Harlem Heights AIM base. This ministry team has been coming alongside families as they work through the aftermaths of hurricane Ian that hit this community just over a year ago.
Each team got assigned a house to work on for the work week. My team also got the joy of working alongside 2 men , John and Tom, from the community who were our construction leads. It was a blessing to work alongside all these people!
Thursday night was one of my favourite night from the whole race so far! We got worship on the sand at sunset with both our squads as well as strangers from the beach! What a beautiful thing it is to see creation worshipping the creator in creation! Before the worship session started we went and invited people who were at the beach to join us and many came! How sweet to see the children of God come together to give Him glory!
And here’s a picture of my beautiful team! It was so special to continue to grow meaningful relationships with the girls on my team through domestic ministry. I am so thankful for each of them and it’s clear that God has placed us together for a special reason!
This past week both squads have been back on base in Georgia debriefing the last month and a half! It’s almost impossible to put into words what has all happened here but I am so thankful for the ways that the Lord has shown himself and the true joy I continue to find in Him! This doesn’t mean that it has been a perfect couple of weeks, challenges have come, but when we do life with the Lord it makes even the hard moments sweeter!
Ways you can partner in prayer:
⁃ Pray for safe travels for my squad as we travel to Guatemala tomorrow morning!
⁃ The softening of hearts and minds for the people of Guatemala
⁃ For opportunities to continue to grow in the gifts that God had given me to use for His glory
⁃ Lastly, for our world. There is so much tension right now globally and so many people don’t know the name of Jesus! True hope is only found in Him!!
